The department has signed five Memorandum of Understanding’s (MoU’s) with the reputed national and international institutes and industries to collaborate and share knowledge in academic and research activities. The department has various National and International Civil Engineering Association’s Student Chapters include Indian Concrete Institute (ICI), Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Institution of Engineers (I) and American Concrete Institute (ACI), The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI]. The ICI Student Chapter has won the ICI Outstanding Student Chapter Award in two consecutive years 2019 and 2020. ASCE Student Chapter received International Acclamation from the parent bodies. The student research and innovative skills have been exhibited in various national meets and have won acclamation by winning best innovative project awards from AICTE and IIT Madras.

SRM IGS Student Chapter

The Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) mainly aims at promoting co-operation amongst engineers and scientists for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Soil Dynamics, Engineering Geology, Rock Mechanics and their practical applications. It provides a common forum for academicians, research workers, designers, construction engineers, equipment manufacturers and others interested in geotechnical activity. To promote closer interaction amongst geotechnical engineers spread all over the country, local chapters of the Society were introduced in 1968. Student chapters create the opportunity for the IGS members to reach out, communicate; and they are the catalyst for many advances in Geotechnical Engineering field. Participation in an IGS Student chapters brings manufacturers, engineers, researchers, professors, contractors, and designers together in an environment which directly influencing the students with better field expertise.

BIS Standards Student Club

The BIS Standards Club was initiated in July 2023 in the Department of Civil Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, with the aim of promoting awareness and understanding of Indian Standards among students. The club began with 20 enthusiastic student members from various programmes, including B.Tech in Civil Engineering, B.Tech in Civil Engineering with Computer Applications, M.Tech in Structural Engineering, and M.Tech in Construction Engineering and Management and M.Tech Geotechnical Engineering. This multidisciplinary participation ensures a comprehensive approach to learning and applying BIS standards in both academic and practical scenarios.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Student Club at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, was established with a vision to create awareness about the importance of standardization and its application in the engineering field. Operating under the Department of Civil Engineering, the club provides a platform for undergraduate and postgraduate students to engage with national standards, understand their significance, and apply them in real-time projects and academic work.
